If you have been involved in an accident that was not your fault, and you were hurt, it is most important that you seek medical treatment immediately by going to the closest hospital emergency room, preferably by ambulance.  Doing this should precede all other aspects of the accident.

Contact the police so that a report can be made before leaving the scene.  Make sure that all passengers are listed and that injuries are documented.

Don't wait for the police report to find out the information of the other drivers/parties.  Take down the license plate number and insurance information at the scene - this will help you expedite your claim and insure that you have what you need if the police officer makes a mistake.

Look for witnesses to the accident and get their names and contact information.  Depending on how the police report and evidence reads, you may need them in the near or not so near future

As soon as you can, get your camera or buy a disposable camera and get pictures of all damage to your car, the other car, if possible, and the scene of the accident.  Once the car has been repaired or totaled, there will be no proof of property damages.

Refuse to talk to the insurance company about your injuries!  The extent of someone's injuries can only be assessed by a medical doctor.
